New Tariff Investigation—An Unnatural Disaster for the U.S. Solar Industry

On March 28th, the U.S. Department of Commerce made the disastrous decision to initiate an anticircumvention investigation against solar cell and module imports from Cambodia, Malaysia, Thailand, and Vietnam. This case is already causing serious damage to the U.S. solar industry and threatens tens of thousands of American solar jobs and billions of dollars in U.S. investments. If the case proceeds, it will be impossible for the Biden Administration to meet its climate goals.

U.S. Solar Market Insight: 2021 Year in Review

In 2021 the U.S. Solar Market again set records as demand for residential solar (and storage) reached new levels and the utility-scale solar pipeline continued to be built out. Growing interest in corporate and community solar also helped spur 19% year-over-year growth as the industry topped 20 GW and 500,000 annual installations for the first time, as documented in our recently released US Solar Market Insight 2021 Year in Review report.

Forced Labor Prevention and the Hoshine WRO: What Solar Businesses Need to Know

In June 2021, U.S. Customs & Border Protection issued a withhold-release order (WRO) against products containing silica from Hoshine Silicon Industry Co., impacting solar imports which are now subject to customs enforcement activity, including import detention. While this has impacted the U.S. solar industry, companies are starting to make progress working with CBP in submitting the information required to demonstrate their imports are free of forced labor and getting goods released from detention.

SolarAPP+ Pilot Results are in: AHJs, Homeowners, and Contractors Save

Over the last year, the National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL) conducted pilot trials of the new SolarAPP+ platform with 5 AHJs across the country. These pilots served as an opportunity to evaluate the performance of the platform and ensure that it works with a variety AHJs with diverse characteristics and needs.

Diverse Supplier Networking Event

Companies with diverse ownership work in every aspect and vertical within the solar industry, from manufacturers and project developers, to installers and financiers. To strengthen the DEIJ in the solar and storage industry, SEIA launched the Diverse Suppliers Database last year to connect buyers throughout the supply chain with diverse-owned businesses.
