Solar and Storage Industry Statement on North Carolina Legislature Overriding Veto of "The Power Bill Reduction Act"

RALEIGH, NC — Following is a statement from Caitlin Vincent, director of Southeast state affairs at the Solar Energy Industries Association, on the North Carolina General Assembly’s vote to override Governor Stein’s veto of Senate Bill 266:

“We are disappointed to see the North Carolina legislature ram through a law that risks raising everyday North Carolinians’ energy bills, threatens the state’s ability to power the AI boom, and endangers tens of thousands of good clean energy jobs. Senate Bill 266 puts hardworking North Carolinians on the hook to pay for unfinished power plants — with no guarantee that those projects will add a single electron to the grid — and ties the state’s energy future to sources known for volatile price increases.

“With energy demand and electricity prices rising fast, the legislature could not have picked a worse time to play favorites and backtrack on years of clean energy leadership that has spurred billions of dollars of private investment in North Carolina.”
