NextEra To Invest $100 Million In Energy Storage Technology

NextEra Energy Inc. plans to invest $100 million in energy-storage systems over the next year to back up its fleet of solar and wind energy plants. NextEra is the world’s biggest producer of wind and solar power, and will use the battery systems to manage energy fluctuations caused by cloudy weather and lulls in the wind, Jim Robo, chief executive officer of the Juno Beach, Florida-based company, said Tuesday at an analyst conference. Power companies are showing more interest in storage, especially batteries, which are becoming cheaper.

Panasonic Trumps Days-Old SolarCity Module Efficiency Record

Panasonic claims to have toppled a world record for module efficiency announced only days ago by SolarCity and will be demonstrating the new module at next week’s Solar Energy UK exhibition organised by PV Tech's publisher, Solar Media. Panasonic said the new record built on cell-level efficiencies of 25.6% recorded last year. “The new panel efficiency record demonstrates once again Panasonic’s proven leadership in photovoltaics and our ongoing commitment to move the needle in advanced solar technology,” said Daniel Roca, senior business developer at Panasonic Eco Solutions Europe.

SolarCity Is About To Start Manufacturing The Most Efficient Rooftop Solar Panel Ever

SolarCity, the 9-year-old solar energy company that counts Elon Musk as a co-founder and current chairman, announced this morning that it has reached a new record for solar panel efficiency. At its most potent, new design is able to use tiny fraction above 22 percent of the suns’ rays. Top performance, usually hovers between 15 to 17 percent.

Amazon Moving Forward With 80 MW Virginia Solar Farm

An enormous solar energy farm on the Eastern Shore could be the catalyst that jump-starts Virginia’s clean energy industry, Gov. Terry McAuliffe said. The project to be built for Amazon Web Services in Accomack County will span 900 acres and use 250,000 solar panels, enough to quadruple the state’s solar footprint when it is completed next year.
