Renovus Solar Expands With New Ithaca Facility

A company that's focused on expanding solar energy in the Southern Tier celebrated its own expansion Wednesday. Renovus Solar held a ribbon-cutting ceremony for its newly renovated facility on Trumansburg Road in Ithaca. The company designs and installs renewable energy systems for homes and businesses throughout Central New York. Renovus says it has added more than 50 new jobs over the past year and expects further growth, with the addition of projects like its community Solar Farm, for one example.

Luminant Inks Deal With SunEdison To Bring More Solar Power To Texas Grid

More solar power will enter Texas’ power market next year to compete “apples to apples” with coal and gas power now that Dallas-based Luminant has signed the largest such deal in the country with SunEdison. Power generator Luminant will buy 116 megawatts — enough to power 58,000 homes during normal demand — from SunEdison’s new 800-acre Castle Gap facility in Upton County, just south of Midland.

OneRoof And Solect Partner For Residential Installations In Massachusetts

OneRoof reported that the company had expanded into Maryland and New Jersey. This week, Solect Energy joins OneRoof in Massachusetts as a solar installer. The Massachusetts company has focused on providing solar installation services to small to medium-sized businesses and organizations. Solect also provides solar services to municipalities, schools, churches and other institutions.

SolarCity to Offer Solar to Low-Income Renters in California

SolarCity Corp. will finance and install rooftop panels for affordable housing and low-income renters in California as the company moves to address concerns about the accessibility of solar energy.  SolarCity, the nation’s biggest provider of rooftop-solar power, will team up with Everyday Energy, a developer of solar for affordable-housing units, to sell its service that promises lower monthly utility bills, according to a statement Thursday from the San Mateo, California-based company.

Sunrun Awarded Change Prize By SunShot Initiative To Make Solar Installations Faster

Sunrun has been awarded a Change Prize by the U.S. Department of Energy SunShot Initiative and will participate in the SunShot Prize: Race to 7-Day Solar. The competition launches Sept. 22 with a goal to motivate local governments, communities, solar companies and electric utilities to shorten the time it takes to get solar on a home to one week. Over the next 18-months, Sunrun will compete with four other teams to cut the permit-to-plug-in time for small PV systems up to 100 kilowatts.

EnergySage: From Shopping To Investing, Online Platforms Are Changing The Business Of Solar

When EnergySage CEO Vikram Aggarwal looked at the results of his company's solar-homeowner survey conducted earlier this year, he was happy to see they validated his instincts. In one question, the 4,000 homeowners who participated were asked where they got the idea to buy solar. Only 30 percent of them said they were influenced by an advertisement or solar company salesperson. The other 70 percent said they started their solar journey through an internet search, social media, news stories, personal recommendations or a community event.

Solar Pros Celebrate Achievements At 2015 Top Solar Contractors Gala

Three-hundred-fifty solar professionals, representing more than 110 solar installation and development companies, celebrated Monday, September 14, 2015, at the Top 500 Solar Contractors Gala. The annual event recognizes solar contractors listed on the Solar Power World Top 500 Solar Contractors list for their contribution and dedication to the solar industry. Held at the Hilton Anaheim, the Gala included networking, dinner and awards.

SunPower To Build 20-Megawatt Solar Power Plant For Arizona Cooperative

Sulphur Springs Valley Electric Cooperative (SSVEC) and SunPower announced that SSVEC signed a 20-year power purchase agreement (PPA) with SunPower to build a 20-megawatt (AC) solar photovoltaic (PV) power plant in Cochise County, Arizona.
