SunEdison Signs 6.2 Megawatt Solar Power Deal With L.A. County

SunEdison Inc. has signed 20-year power purchase agreements (PPAs) with Los Angeles County for 6.2 MW of solar energy. The electricity will be used for nine government facilities. SunEdison will build solar parking canopies at many of the locations. "By signing a long-term agreement with guaranteed pricing, L.A. County will save millions of dollars while dramatically reducing its exposure to rising utility rates," says Sam Youneszadeh, SunEdison's regional general manager of its western U.S. solar business.

Here’s What It Would Take For Solar Installers To Adapt To A World Without The ITC

Section 25 of the federal residential Investment Tax Credit drops to zero on Jan. 1, 2017 -- a short 13 months from now. Effectively, the after-incentive selling price to residential homeowners will go up by 30 percent. A typical 5-kilowatt system at $4 per watt will increase in price from $14,000 (with the 30 percent ITC) to $20,000. It doesn’t take a degree in economics to conclude that residential sales will plummet.

Veterans Tell Congress: Extend The Investment Tax Credit ASAP

There's at least one industry that serves as a bright spot for veterans: solar. Not only is solar employment growing 10 times faster than in the economy as a whole, "veterans are rising through the industry and they're advocating for other vets," explains Anna Bautista, Vice-President for Construction and Workforce Development at the non-profit solar installer GRID Alternatives. In the solar industry, veterans make up almost 10 percent of the workforce, more than their percentage in the adult population.

Standard Solar Completes Construction On One Of Maryland’s Largest Retail Garage-Top Solar Canopies

 Standard Solar completed installation of a 265kW garage-top solar canopy for developer Federal Realty Investment Trust. The seven-level, 566 parking space garage is part of Pike & Rose, the developer’s new mixed-use residential, retail and office project in Rockville, Maryland. The 855-panel array, expected to produce 226,500 kWh a year, will offset approximately 30 percent of the energy required to power the garage and the multiple electric vehicle charging stations.

Canadian Solar Wins 110 MWp Of Solar Power Projects In Brazil

Canadian Solar Inc. has won three solar photovoltaic (PV) projects totaling 110 megawatts (MWp) in Pirapora, in the state of Minas Gerais, Brazil.  Canadian Solar will develop and build the solar power plants. Once connected to the grid, the electricity generated will be sold to CCEE (Camara de Comercializacao de Energia Eletrica), under a 20-year Power Purchase Agreement at approximately $78.8/MWh. The three projects are targeted to reach commercial operation by late 2018.

SunPower To Build 170 MW In China

SunPower is to build 170 MW of projects in China for two investors, one of which is rumoured to be tech giant Apple. An SEC filing submitted by SunPower earlier this week confirms the three projects, which it will build in the Inner Mongolia region. According to details provided by SunPower in the filing, the projects include:100MW in Shangtuhai Village, Wuchuan County 20MW in Qianbaimiao Village, Jinhe Town, Saihan District 50MW in Mandahtu Town Sunite Zuoqi, Xilinguole
