"Teaching Students Along the Way": Schools Open New Opportunities with Solar & Storage

Daniel Rodríguez from ASPIRA Bilingual Cyber Charter School in Philadelphia, explains how the school integrated an off-grid solar and energy storage system to power the school’s environmental education greenhouse. Rodriguez projects that it will only take three short years for the solar + storage system’s benefits to equalize with costs, noting that after that point, “it’s free electricity.”
The system is allowing the high school to reinvest savings into beehives for each class and providing several learning opportunities for students, from harvesting honey to monitoring the solar energy production in real time and teaching students the value of saving money.
