Senator Whitehouse and State Leadership Announce Launch of Tiverton and Little Compton Solarize Campaigns

U.S. Senator Sheldon Whitehouse and Representatives from Governor Gina M. Raimondo’s office joined the Rhode Island Commerce Corporation (Commerce RI), the Rhode Island Office of Energy Resources (OER), and non-profit marketing firm SmartPower today to announce the launch of Solarize Tiverton and Solarize Little Compton, the latest communities to join the growing Solarize Rhode Island program.

MillerCoors Unveils Largest Solar Array of Any U.S. Brewery at Irwindale Plant

As high clouds slipped in front of the sun, executives from MillerCoors flipped the switch Thursday on the largest solar panel array of any brewery in the country. The beer company partnered with SolarCity, the largest solar provider to Fortune 500 companies, cities and schools.

‘Sexy’ No Longer, Solar May See More Consolidation, Hanwha Says

Tumbling oil prices will maintain pressure on the solar industry to consolidate by drying up investor interest in building new factories, according to an executive who just carried out a $1.2 billion merger.  Dong Kwan Kim, chief commercial officer of Hanwha SolarOne Co. (HSOL), said the industry has been “unfairly penalized for oil prices” and that the company that ranks among the top three panel makers may return to profit this year for the first time since 2010.

Solar Power Purchase for DOE Laboratories

The U.S. Department of Energy/National Nuclear Security Administration (DOE/NNSA) announced today it has finalized the license agreement with Whitethorn Solar, a wholly owned subsidiary of Juwi Solar Inc. (Juwi), for a solar electrical generation system onsite at Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory.  When completed, the power generated by this system will represent the DOE/NNSA’s largest purchase of solar power from an onsite facility and the first in its western region.

Desert Sunlight, Another 550MW Solar Farm From First Solar, Now Fully Operational

Yet another half-gigawatt solar power project is coming on-line in California.  Late last year, the 550-megawatt capacity Topaz Solar project achieved full commercial operation and claimed the title of largest solar plant on-line in the world.   And now Topaz has to share the crown with First Solar's 550-megawatt Desert Sunlight project in Riverside, Calif., which went all-on this month, according to the California Independent System Operator (CAISO) website.
