Massachusetts Clean Energy Advocates Welcome SMART Program Release

The Massachusetts Department of Energy Resources (DOER) has announced its Solar Massachusetts Renewable Target (SMART) Program regulations, which will now go through a public comment period. Massachusetts boasts the second largest solar workforce in the country thanks to state initiatives like net metering and the SREC 2 program, and today’s announcement could be a first step in giving residents and businesses confidence in the Bay State’s continued commitment to progress. This announcement followed the Governor’s recent commitment to addressing climate change and joining the United States Climate Alliance.

Solar Advocates Develop Set of Shared Rate Design Principles

Developed and supported by a broad coalition of energy advocates across the United States, the Solar Energy Industries Association (SEIA) and Vote Solar released a set of principles today intended to help guide and unify future state-level solar rate advocacy work. Principles for the Evolution of Net Energy Metering and Rate Design provides a consensus view for regulators and stakeholders actively involved in the compensation for distributed solar generation.

New Program to Increase Opportunities for Women in the Solar Industry Launches in Washington D.C.

To increase gender diversity in the local solar industry, GRID Alternatives Mid-Atlantic, a nonprofit organization that makes solar power and job training accessible to underserved communities, is hosting its first all-women’s solar build today in the District. This “We Build” event, sponsored by the Solar Energy Industries Association (SEIA), marks the local launch of GRID’s national Women in Solar Program, an effort to build a diverse, equitable and inclusive solar industry by providing pathways to technical careers for women, highlighting the voices of women of color in the industry, and providing national leadership on solar workforce diversity.

Solar Industry Applauds Gov. Dayton’s Veto, Urges Him to Keep Anti-Consumer Provisions Out of Final Bill

WASHINGTON, D.C. - Today, the national solar energy association commended Minnesota Gov. Mark Dayton for protecting consumers and a quickly growing solar industry in the state.
