New Nevada Study Shows Huge Upside to Installing Solar
A new independent study prepared for the Nevada Public Utilities Commission estimates that the grid benefits of rooftop solar systems installed in the state through 2016 will outweigh costs by more than $36 million, confirming that solar energy can provide real savings for both solar and non-solar customers alike.
California Extends Solar Property Tax Exclusion
California Gov. Jerry Brown signed a comprehensive state budget today, which included a provision that extends the existing solar property tax exclusion until January 1, 2025. Afterward, Solar Energy Industries Association (SEIA) president and CEO Rhone Resch released the following statement:
CPUC Approves Settlement to Extend Solar*Rewards Program
At the urging of the Solar Energy Industries Association (SEIA) and other stakeholders, the Colorado Public Utilities Commission (CPUC) today approved a settlement that will reopen the company’s highly popular Colorado small residential and medium-sized Solar*Rewards solar programs until the state’s 2014 Renewable Energy Standard (RES) Compliance Plan is finalized later this year.
SEIA, NECEC Endorse Massachusetts’s Precedent-setting Legislation to Eliminate Solar Net Metering Cap
Saying it reflects consensus from major clean energy, utility and environmental stakeholders while solidifying the Commonwealth’s commitment to 1,600 megawatts (MW) of solar energy by 2020, the Solar Energy Industries Association (SEIA) and the New England Clean Energy Council (NECEC) today announced their support for proposed legislation for a new net metering and renewable energy incentive program that will result in hundreds of millions of dollars in cost savings for ratepayers.
SEIA and NYSEIA Applaud NY Property Tax Extender
Saying it will help consumers and support continued investment in residential and commercial solar, the Solar Energy Industries Association (SEIA) and the New York Solar Energy Industries Association (NYSEIA) today commended the New York State legislature for passing a property tax exemption extension. The bill, which will now be sent to Gov. Cuomo for signature, extends the property tax exemption for distributed generation systems on homes and businesses until 2025.
SEIA Urges Gov. Kasich to Veto RPS Freeze
Warning that it will have a chilling effect on renewable energy development in Ohio, the Solar Energy Industries Association (SEIA) is urging Gov. John Kasich to veto a bill that would freeze the state’s renewable energy and energy efficiency mandates. The bill, SB 310, passed the General Assembly on May 28 but has not yet reached the governor’s desk.
SEIA: South Carolina Law Represents Step Forward, But More Actions Needed
WASHINGTON, DC – South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley today signed legislation that removes some restrictions on solar development and prompts utilities to invest in or acquire a certain amount of solar by 2021. In response to the bill becoming law, Carrie Cullen Hitt, senior vice president for state affairs for the Solar Energy Industries Association, issued the following statement:

The report summarizes state-level RPS costs to date and considers how those costs may evolve going forward given scheduled increases in RPS targets and cost containment mechanisms incorporated into existing policies. The report also summarizes RPS benefits estimates, based on published studies for individual states, and discusses key methodological considerations.
