SEIA, Leading Business Groups Urge Vice President to Raise India Trade Concerns

With widespread U.S. concerns over India’s trade practices and policies, the Solar Energy Industries Association (SEIA) – along with the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, the National Association of Manufacturers (NAM) and nearly 40 other leading American business groups – are urging Vice President Biden to raise these concerns during his visit to India later this month.

Protest Letter Regarding India Trade Policies

The Solar Energy Industries Association has joined the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, the National Association of Manufacturers and other leading business groups to protest  “protectionist” trade policies followed by India.  In a letter to President Obama – signed by SEIA President & CEO Rhone Resch and other top business leaders – India has “engaged in a persistent pattern of discrimination designed to benefit India’s business community at the expense of American jobs.”

Solar Market Insight Report 2007 Year in Review

In 2007, the U.S. solar energy industry saw a glimpse of a gigawatt future. There was signi?cant growth in the commercial and residential PV markets and a new utility-scale segment for PV emerged with the fastest growth of all segments representing over 15 percent of the annual U.S. installed PV capacity. The ?rst concentrating solar power plant was built in more than 15 years with dozens more utility-scale projects in the pipeline. The expansion of the solar water heating market continued. Thousands of U.S. jobs were created and billions of dollars were invested. And, the industry strengthened its presence in Washington and our united coalition support across the country.

Consortia Focused on Photovoltaic R&D, Manufacturing, and Testing: A Review of Existing Models and Structures.

As the U.S. Department of Energy's (DOE's) Solar Energy Technologies Program prepares to initiate a new cost-shared research and development (R&D) effort on photovoltaic (PV) manufacturing, it is useful to review the experience to date with consortia focused on PV R&D, manufacturing, and testing. Information was gathered for this report by conducting interviews and accessing Web sites of 14 U.S. consortia and four European consortia, each with either a primary focus on or an emerging interest in PV technology R&D, manufacturing, or testing.

SEIA Statement on U.S. Dept. of Commerce Final AD/CVD Determinations
