CPUC Approves Settlement to Extend Solar*Rewards Program

At the urging of the Solar Energy Industries Association (SEIA) and other stakeholders, the Colorado Public Utilities Commission (CPUC) today approved a settlement that will reopen the company’s highly popular Colorado small residential and medium-sized Solar*Rewards solar programs until the state’s 2014 Renewable Energy Standard (RES) Compliance Plan is finalized later this year.

U.S. Residential Solar PV Installations Exceeded Commercial Installations for the First Time in Q1 2014

Driven by strong year-over-year growth in the utility and residential markets, the United States installed 1,330 megawatts of solar photovoltaics (PV) in the first quarter of 2014. According to GTM Research and the Solar Energy Industry Association’s (SEIA) Q1 2014 U.S. Solar Market Insight Report, the U.S. installed 232 megawatts of residential PV, exceeding the non-residential (commercial) market’s 225 megawatts for the first time in the history of the report.

Solar Homes Fetch Market Premium According to National Lab

A new study from Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory finds that homes in California with rooftop solar installations sell for higher prices than comparable homes without solar. The authors find that the value of homes increases by $5,900 for every kW of solar installed, though this premium decreases by 9% per year of system age.
