Low-cost Solar Array Kept Power On for Savannah Couple After Hurricane Helene

A rooftop solar array helped a couple in Savannah keep the lights on after Hurricane Helene. The couple was able to install their rooftop solar thanks to a grant helping make solar more affordable, and the couple used their array to provide solar for them and their neighbors in the aftermath of Hurricane Helene.

Qcells Invests $2.5 Billion to Build Vertically Integrated Solar Manufacturing Plant in Cartersville

Qcells announced a $2.5 billion investment for a manufacturing facility in Cartersville. The facility will manufacture 3.3 GW of modules, cells, wafers, and ingots, and will be the first vertically integrated c-Si solar manufacturer in the United States.

Savannah Adds Solar on 14 City Buildings and Will Save $1.4 Million

The Savannah City Council voted to add a cumulative 1.26 MW of rooftop solar to 14 city buildings. The solar arrays will provide over 1/3 of the city's electricity needs and save the city -- and taxpayers-- a total of $1.4 million over the project's lifespan.

Shaw Industries Installs Innovative Rooftop Solar Array at Adairsville Manufacturing Facility

Shaw Industries installed an innovative 300 kW solar array at its carpet tile manufacturing and recycling facility. This solar array will produce enough electricity to power 45 homes and will help the manufacturer greatly reduce its energy needs.

Suniva Restarts American Solar Cell Manufacturing in Norcross

Hyundai Motors Reaches Deal to Power Georgia EV Plant With Solar

Hyundai Motor announced it signed a 15 year power purchase agreement to power its EV plant in Bryan County. The manufacturing plant will receive 147 MW of power from a solar project in Texas once the solar project is operational in 2025.

Rooftop Solar Panels Help K-Machine Save $2.2 Million at Richmond Hill Location

K-Machine partnered with Georgia based Velo Solar to install a rooftop solar array to its industrial equipment maintenance and warehouse in Richmond Hill. This solar project will save the company nearly $50,000 per year and $2.2 million over the project's lifespan.

Solar Helping Meet Increased Power Demand in Georgia

Georgia Power recently projected that power demand is expected to triple in Georgia by the end of the decade, fueled in part by data centers. Many of these data centers are turning with solar to provide power, making solar a key in meeting Georgia's expected load growth.

Cartersville's Piana Technology Meets 70% of Energy Demand Through Rooftop Solar

Piana Technology expanded its rooftop solar array at its textile manufacturing site in Cartersville. The solar array will provide up to 70% of the manufacturer's electricity needs, and any excess is sold back to the city to contribute to the city's electricity supply.

EVA Sheet Manufacturing Brings $147 Million in Investment to Cartersville

Hanwha Advanced Materials from South Korea announced a $147 million manufacturing investment to supply EVA backsheets to Qcells. This will bring 160 manufacturing jobs to the district and help build out the American solar supply chain.

Canton Solar Carport Helps Offset City's Electricity Costs

Canton hosted a ribbon cutting for its downtown parking deck by city hall. This includes an 80 kW solar carport that will provide electricity for EV charging and offset the city's electricity costs.

Freyr Announces $1.7 Billion Battery Factory Investment in Cowetta County

Freyr announced a $1.7 billion investment in a battery cell manufacturing facility in Cowetta County. This will serve the stationary storage industry and have a capacity to manufacture 34 GWh of cells and create 720 jobs.

Appling Solar Farm Provides 25 MW to Meet Load Growth Demands of AI Data Center

A 25 MW solar project in Appling County began generating solar power for Meta's Newton Data Center. This is helping meet the power demand increase created by data centers. The project used 150 craft workers to complete, many of whom were from the local community.

Tybee Island Marine Science Center Makes a Solar Splash

Tybee Island Marine Science Center is an aquarium that helps nurse sea turtles, alligators, fish, and corn snakes back to health and helps teach Georgians about these animals. Since aquarium tanks are expensive, the aquarium installed rooftop solar that has already led to energy savings in just 6 months.

American Peanut Growers Group Uses Solar to Lower Energy Costs for Farmers

American Peanut Growers Group uses a roof mounted solar array to generate 600,000 kWh of electricity at its drying shelters. This significantly lowers energy costs for the farmers, which can get passed on as savings for consumers.

Robins Air Force Base Bolsters Energy Security and Resilience With Solar Project

A 139 MW solar array next to Robins Air Force Base supplies electricity to the base. This provides cost-effective electricity that can help the military meet its energy security and resilience needs.

Solar Power Trailer Helps Valdosta Recover After Hurricane Helene

A trailer from the United Methodist Church brought a solar microgrid to Valdosta to help with recovery after Hurricane Helene. This provided much needed electricity to Georgians and came from the United Methodist Church.

SOLARCYCLE to Open First-of-its-Kind Solar Panel Glass Plant in Georgia

SOLARCYCLE, a solar recycling company, announced a state-of-the-art recycling facility in Cedartown. This facility will recycle solar panels and use that to make glass for new modules. The facility will create more than 600 full time manufacturing jobs and an estimated $344 million investment.

Oakhurst Presbyterian Church Installs Solar Thanks to Federal Tax Credits

The Oakhurst Presbyterian Church in Decatur completed a rooftop solar array that will save the church $146,000 over the project's life span. A spokesperson highlighted new federal regulations that allow the congregation to access funds through the direct pay mechanism.

Two Statesboro Churches Add Solar Power Installations

Two churches in Statesboro, the Trinity Episcopal Church and the Unitarian Universalist Fellowship, added solar installations with Georgia BRIGHT. This will save the Unitarian Universalist Fellowship $9,000 and Trinity Episcopal Church $62,000.

City of South Fulton Fire Department Implements Rooftop Solar to Secure Emergency Power

The South Fulton Fire Department installed a solar array that will save the fire department money while also providing emergency power during emergencies.

Georgia Tech Student Uses Solar to Help an Animal Welfare Organization Save $1.6 Million

Five students from Georgia Tech worked with the Lifeline Animal Project to install rooftop solar. This will help the Atlanta animal shelter to save $1.6 million over the next 20 years.

60 Year Old Bibb Distributing Company in Macon Installs Solar Panels

The 60+ year old Bibb Distributing Company is concerned about giving back to the community and being a responsible Georgian company. To do so, the distributor installed rooftop solar panels in 2021.

Atlanta Motorsports Park Revs Up With Solar Power

Atlanta Motorsports Park in Dawsonville added a 402 kW solar array that includes modules from Qcells' Georgia manufacturing facility. The panels were installed thanks to the Rural Energy for America Program, which allowed the motorsports facility to recoup 50% of its total costs.

Vanderlande Includes Solar Array at Marietta Campus

Vanderlande moved to a new building in Marietta that includes a rooftop solar array. This will help the company that employs nearly 1,000 people to reduce electricity costs by more than 25%.

Yonah Mountain Vineyards Covers 60% of Electricity Needs With Onsite Solar

Yonah Mountain Vineyards, a popular tourist attraction and wedding venue in White County, has a106 kW solar array onsite. This is coupled with solar shingles on the barn roof that provides over 60% of the vineyard's annual energy usage.

Rome Medical Clinic Saving Money With Solar Panels

The Northwest Georgia Medical Clinic reported a large reduction of its energy footprint, just 11 months after it installed a rooftop solar array. This array offset more than half of the hospital's energy usage, leading to significant savings and protection from power rate increases.

Georgia School Blazes Trail to Become 100% Solar-Powered

The SAE School in Mableton became the first school in Georgia to become 100% solar powered. This allows the school to save $15,000 a year in electricity costs, allowing the school to spend more money on the children.
