Taking the Solar + Storage Industry to the Next Level

Leveling Up Solar and Storage with Bill Taylor

“Wherever there is a need for energy, we want to be the best and we will be the best.”

Bill Taylor, Founder & CEO, DCE Solar

In this episode of Good Energy, SEIA talks to Bill Taylor, a solar entrepreneur based in North Carolina who is the Owner and President of DCE Solar. Taylor reviews his experiences running and solar business and provides his insight into where the industry is headed.

Taylor saw a demand for more energy generation when he founded DCE Solar in 2009 and has seen his business evolve over its 17 years. As the solar industry matures and trends ebb and flow, Taylor has worked to remain one step ahead and meet consumer demands. Some of the new trends he sees in the industry is the growth of battery storage, both standalone and attached to solar projects, and a rise in power purchase agreements (PPAs) made directly with end power users.

While Taylor has made buying and hiring domestically a core mission of DCE since its founding, he does note the current challenges that foreign supply chains are holding on the U.S. market. Even so, his onshoring strategy is now paying dividends compared to his competitors. He emphasizes the importance of certainty in business planning and calls on policymakers in Washington to provide this for solar businesses.

Taylor discusses the varying applications of solar from carports to hospitals. He sees the continuing demand for solar to mean that America will see solar projects anywhere and everywhere. He mentions that his team is currently working on a large solar carport for a hospital in New Jersey.

Looking to the future, Taylor sees DCE continuing to grow in the services it provides and becoming a leader in the storage sector. He wants DCE to be the best it can be for its customers and the industry and not just prioritize growth or the bottom line.
