A new program promoting solar energy has dawned in Westport.
As part of a state-sponsored initiative called Solarize Connecticut, a three-month offer will enable Westporters — and residents of three other state communities — to purchase or begin leasing solar equipment to provide electricity and hot water systems for their homes at discounted rates. The more residents who sign up for the project, the lower the costs will be for everyone.
Close to 100 residents attended an informational program Tuesday night at Earthplace Nature Center, where representatives of Encon — the Stratford-based business contracted to do the work at special rates in Westport — shared information on installation, cost and savings of solar-energy systems.
