The United States and Canada have a long-standing trade relationship in energy products and raw materials, as well as a variety of bilateral and multilateral mechanisms for cooperation on critical minerals. As batteries become more essential to maintaining grid reliability, meeting energy demand, and keeping electricity affordable, the energy storage industry is increasingly turning its attention to the resilience and security of the entire battery value chain. Government efforts to onshore and nearshore key nodes of the battery supply chain are complementary to individual company efforts, and both countries are uniquely positioned to jointly strengthen supply chains for raw and processed materials.

This joint SEIA – Energy Storage Canada webinar will discuss how changes to the supply of key critical minerals like lithium and graphite impact the BESS market in the United States and Canada; offer an overview of mechanisms for joint and multilateral investment currently available and under consideration; and provide an update on critical minerals in the context of the USMCA renegotiation.
