GRID Empowers Women in a Diverse Solar Workforce

Last week, GRID Alternatives, a non-profit solar installer with the goal of providing affordable solar to low-income communities, launched a free Women in Solar training program. The training, in partnership with SunEdison, is part of GRID’s National Women in Solar Initiative to bring more women into the solar industry and support their professional growth.

GRID has been instrumental in the solar industry’s rise in workforce gender diversity. According to The Solar Foundation’s National Solar Jobs Census, women represented 24 percent of the solar workforce in 2015, up 2 percent from 2014. That’s an encouraging trend, but we have a long way to go. With solar jobs growing by 20 percent a year, the leadership and talents of women are crucial to building a strong and sustainable industry.

Earlier this summer, SEIA began its new Women’s Empowerment Series focused on educating, connecting and providing thought leadership in the solar industry. The inaugural event was a huge success, as hundreds on women leaders gathered to discuss solar policy, PACE financing and new market trends.

The series continues with a second Women’s Empowerment: Leaders in Solar Energy event taking place in San Francisco on October 20th

Sponsored by Sunrun, the event agenda and panels are chosen by the newly formed Women’s Empowerment Education Committee. Those who also attend SEIA’s Solar Goes Corporate event the day prior will receive a 20 percent discount. Click here to register and learn more.
