New Report Examines ‘Lessons Learned’ from Germany’s Solar Efforts

SEIA Condemns Decision to Impose New Tariffs on Solar Modules

In a further escalation of the solar trade war with China, the U.S. Department of Commerce has imposed yet another layer of tariffs on solar modules from China, and – for the first time – on imports from Taiwan. In a decision announced today, Commerce will immediately impose antidumping duties ranging from 26.33 to 58.87 percent for China and 27.59 to 44.18 percent for Taiwan. Rhone Resch, president and CEO of the Solar Energy Industries Association (SEIA) was quick to condemn the decision.

SEIA Commends NHL for Commitment to Sustainability

Today, the National Hockey League (NHL) released a new sustainability report, saying, in part, “We believe it’s important to invest in clean, renewable energy sources, such as wind, solar and hydro in North America. Supporting clean energy will help achieve long-term benefits for our business, such as price stability.”

Federal Government Forecasts Big Gains for Solar Energy

A new report issued today by the Energy Information Administration (EIA) predicts that most new electric generation capacity in the United States through 2040 will come from natural gas and renewable energy. Of the 83 gigawatts (GW) of renewable capacity additions being forecast, nearly half is expected to come from photovoltaic (PV) systems. SEIA: Future Unclear Despite WTO Ruling in China Solar Trade Case

In a significant ruling handed down today, a panel of judges at the World Trade Organization (WTO) accused the United States of violating global trade rules when it imposed punitive import duties in 2012 on many Chinese products, including solar panels. Iowa Supreme Court Hands Down Huge Win for Solar

In a setback to the regulated utility model, the Iowa Supreme Court has ruled that a power purchase agreement (PPA) between the city of Dubuque and Eagle Point Solar does not violate state law. Regulated utility companies had fought the arrangement, claiming to have exclusive rights to sell to customers in their service areas. Today, Iowa’s high court disagreed.

SEIA Announces Mid-Atlantic Trade Show

Following the success of PV America last month in Boston, the Solar Energy Industries Association (SEIA) has announced a new, regional trade show. Solar Power Mid-Atlantic, co-sponsored by SEIA and the Solar Electric Power Association (SEPA) will take place in Atlantic City, New Jersey on Sept. 9 and 10, 2014 and will showcase 25 exhibitors along with a day and a half of educational programming.

New Nevada Study Shows Huge Upside to Installing Solar

A new independent study prepared for the Nevada Public Utilities Commission estimates that the grid benefits of rooftop solar systems installed in the state through 2016 will outweigh costs by more than $36 million, confirming that solar energy can provide real savings for both solar and non-solar customers alike.
