Solar Advocates File Emergency Motion to Prevent Ameren from Devastating Illinois’ Solar Market

CHICAGO and WASHINGTON, D.C. — Today a coalition of solar and environmental groups filed an emergency motion with the Illinois Commerce Commission (ICC) to prevent utility company Ameren from devastating rooftop solar in southern and central Illinois. Last week Ameren told the Commission it intends to eliminate fair compensation for the solar energy homeowners and families produce.

SEIA’s Efforts Continue Energy Freedom in South Carolina

COLUMBIA, SC and WASHINGTON, D.C. — Over the past few years, SEIA has been deeply involved in energy choice and solar advocacy in South Carolina, helping to shape and secure the historic passage of the Energy Freedom Act (EFA) in 2019. SEIA continues to work through implementation of the EFA to ensure that the state follows through on its commitments, including development of  net metering tariffs for rooftop solar.   SEIA’s witness contributed technical expertise and provided a critical foundation for the settlement.

SEIA Continues Fight Against Unlawful PURPA Rules

New Report Shows Steep Increase in School Solar Power Drives Savings on Energy Bills, Frees Up Resources during Pandemic

CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA and WASHINGTON, D.C. — As school districts struggle to adapt to a nationwide budget crisis brought on by the COVID-19 outbreak, many K-12 schools are shoring up budgets with a switch to solar power, often with minimal to no upfront capital costs. Since 2014, K-12 schools saw a 139 percent increase in the amount of solar installed, according to a new report from clean energy nonprofit Generation180, in partnership with The Solar Foundation and the Solar Energy Industries Association (SEIA).
