With energy demand projected to grow at levels not seen over the last decade, the United States is showcasing leadership in expanding domestic manufacturing and jobs, accelerating deployment of clean energy technologies, and ensuring the resiliency and reliability of our electricity supply. The U.S. solar products and energy storage sectors are playing a critical role in advancing our energy security.
U.S. trade policies and trade actions can have a significant impact on domestic manufacturing, foreign supply chains, and deployment. With input from its 1,200 member companies, SEIA is working to ensure common-sense approaches on trade policy to promote supply chain diversification and support further growth in U.S. manufacturing. SEIA also is continuing to explore development of diverse and reliable foreign supply chains in collaboration with international partners. Cooperation is also necessary to ensure that these supply chains are aligned with accepted standards on responsible business conduct, including preventing forced labor from entering the supply chain.
U.S. trade laws provide for the establishment of tariffs and other restrictions to address unfairly trade goods; import injury from fairly trade goods, and foreign trade barriers or trade commitment violations; and trade-related national security concerns. In recent years, application of the trade laws have impacted the U.S. solar products and energy storage sectors.
