SEIA Statement on Passage of Families First Coronavirus Recovery Act

WASHINGTON, D.C. – The following is a statement by Abigail Ross Hopper, president and CEO of the Solar Energy Industries Association on Congress’ passage and the president’s signature of the Families First Coronavirus Recovery Act:

“We congratulate Congress and the administration for the bipartisan work they did to get this critical legislation over the finish line. The Families First Coronavirus Recovery Act will deliver much-needed relief to American workers, families, and small businesses, including those in the solar community. Policy makers have rightly prioritized solving the health crisis as the most important first step in America’s recovery. In the coming days and weeks, Congress also will address the profound economic crisis that is affecting nearly all Americans. We know from a survey we conducted that in just the last week, 16% of companies that responded have had to let workers go.

“Our industry represents 250,000 Americans and American families. As lawmakers consider an economic stimulus package, we respectfully ask that policymakers address the harm solar workers are experiencing as a result of the economy’s contraction. We are committed to working with Congress and other industries to restore the American economy by preventing massive layoffs and reinvigorating tens of billions of dollars of private investment.”
