Solar Industry Comments on Draft Solar PEIS

WASHINGTON and LOS ANGELES – Rhone Resch, president and CEO of the Solar Energy Industries Association (SEIA) released the following statement today accompanying comments submitted today on the Draft Programmatic Environmental Impact Statement for Solar Energy Development in Six Southwestern States (PEIS):

“We applaud Secretary Salazar and the Obama Administration for their commitment to expanding the use of solar energy in the United States,” said Rhone Resch, president and CEO of SEIA. “The PEIS is an unprecedented and commendable effort to set the rules for developing utility-scale solar power plants on public lands. However, President Obama’s goal of greatly expanding the use of renewables in the U.S. would be severely hindered if BLM adopts a Solar Energy Zone-only approach to development. We look forward to offering BLM feedback and insight from the solar industry to find policies that lead to responsible development of utility-scale solar power plants on public lands.”
