New Report Outlines Priorities for a Cybersecure, American-Made Solar and Storage Industry

WASHINGTON D.C. — The Solar Energy Industries Association (SEIA) today released a new report outlining the industry’s priorities for strengthening cybersecurity while expanding domestic manufacturing of solar and energy storage technology. The report comes as U.S. solar and battery storage manufacturing continues to grow, with U.S. inverter manufacturing nearly tripling since the end of 2024.

As cyber threats targeting the energy sector and across the economy continue to evolve, SEIA is working with industry and government partners to ensure that solar and storage systems and components are secure and supported by resilient domestic supply chains.

The report outlines key cybersecurity considerations for the solar and storage industry, recommends actions to strengthen industry resilience, and provides resources for companies to implement cybersecurity best practices and standards.

“As solar and storage continue to lead the way in adding new power capacity to the grid, cybersecurity must remain front and center,” said SEIA president and CEO Tim Pawlenty. “From secure and resilient systems to expanding domestic manufacturing, this report lays out the actions our industry is taking to strengthen U.S. energy security, protect critical infrastructure, and stay ahead of emerging threats.”

As part of its work to fortify our cybersecurity, SEIA is focused on strengthening domestic supply chains. With a new inverter manufacturing facility opening its doors in July, the U.S. is now tied as the world’s second largest manufacturer of inverters.

The report recommends key priorities for strengthening the cybersecurity of the solar and storage industry:

• Expand domestic solar and storage manufacturing by supporting resilient supply chains, greater transparency, and trusted manufacturing capacity
• Strengthen baseline cybersecurity through consistent industry practices and the promotion of national guidance for distributed energy resources
• Improve threat visibility and coordination by expanding information and resource sharing, and helping industry partners communicate risk effectively
