Position Summary

The Senior Communications Manager reports to the Senior Director of Communications and supports SEIA’s strategic communication efforts. The Senior Communications Manager will play an important role in the organization’s media relations and social media activities and will help to advance the organization’s thought leadership and implement state and federal advocacy campaigns.

SEIA relies on its communications and public affairs team to strengthen its message, expand its audience, and provide high-quality communication outcomes for its members. The Senior Communications Manager will help SEIA expand its market opportunities, win policy battles, influence the national conversation on clean energy and climate change and reach the organization’s goals in the Solar+ Decade.

Core Duties & Responsibilities

  • Advancing thought leadership opportunities for SEIA’s spokespeople by drafting blog posts, drafting and pitching op-eds, and developing other digital pieces of content that highlight SEIA’s various campaigns and priorities. 

  • Assisting with media relations, to include: drafting and distributing press releases, pitching news stories, preparing spokespeople for media interviews, fielding media requests, and coordinating press calls to support SEIA’s announcements and other media engagement efforts. 

  • Speechwriting and developing other event preparation materials for SEIA’s senior leaders. 

  • Supporting SEIA’s social media presence by creating engaging digital content that supports SEIA’s priority initiatives. This includes writing social media copy, developing graphics, and creating short videos like Instagram Reels and TikTok videos. 

  • Tracking and analyzing the effectiveness of SEIA’s traditional media and digital media activities. 

Professional Experience, Education & Other Qualifications

  • Three to five years of experience working in public relations, policy communications, digital communications, social media and/or association communications. Knowledge of climate issues and the clean energy industry is preferred. 

  • Strong written and verbal skills and proven ability to communicate to a variety of audiences. 

  • Ability to produce and distribute engaging content that advances an organization’s voice or objective, including blog posts, press releases, webpages, fact sheets, editorials, and more. 

  • Experience executing digital and public affairs campaigns designed to further a brand’s reach and influence. 

  • Strong knowledge of media relations best practices and proven ability to engage with the press. 

  • Experience working in content management systems like Drupal and WordPress, customer relationship management systems such as Salesforce, event management platforms like Eventbrite, and the ability to quickly learn other programs and platforms as needed. 

  • Capable of developing social media strategy and experience curating a brand’s presence on Twitter, Instagram, LinkedIn, Facebook and/or TikTok. 

  • Ability to be adaptable and work under time-sensitive deadlines in a fast-paced and collaborative team environment. 

  • Knowledge of design platforms like Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop, InDesign and video editing programs like After Effects, Premier Pro, and Final Cut is strongly desired but not required. 

Working Conditions

  • Work is in an office environment on a hybrid schedule.
  • Work location: Washington, D.C.

Compensation Range

$68,000 - $80,000 annually, based on experience, and excellent benefits package.
