Press Release

WASHINGTON, D.C. - Following is a statement from Tom Kimbis, interim president of the Solar Energy Industries Association (SEIA):

Along with its 1,000 member companies, SEIA applauds the leadership of Governor Sandoval in tackling tough issues head on by forming the New Energy Industry Task Force (NEITF).  By making the right decisions when it meets for the final time next Tuesday, the task force can drive toward a better way of life for Nevadans using cutting-edge, disruptive technologies, like solar.

The task force has a second chance to improve upon last year’s decisions on solar by the PUCN while recharging the state’s commitment to technology, jobs and economic growth.

Nevada has a strong track record of supporting next generation technologies, from solar to storage to electric vehicles. It can continue on this path of smart policy Tuesday by approving proposals from the Distributed Generation and Storage Technical Advisory Committee. And it can take another step forward by making solar a part of the state’s building code, ushering in more jobs and best-in-class buildings. If approved, Nevada could rightfully claim its role as the solar state and not just the Silver State.

Nevada’s opportunity for a bright, rich future is here. Companies are lining up at the state border to get back to work in Nevada. It’s our sincere hope that the task force makes the right choice on Tuesday by approving recommendations to bring tens of thousands of jobs and hundreds of millions of dollars in investment to Nevada.
