PHOENIX (July 24, 2018) – McCarthy Building Companies’ Renewable Energy Team, based in Phoenix, was selected as the engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) contractor on the Sunfarm V and VI solar projects, which represent a total of 10 MWac of solar energy in Hertford, NC. The projects – 5 MWac each – are owned by ET Capital Solar Partner (USA), Inc., a subsidiary of ET Energy, a global leading clean energy developer and operator.

Sunfarm V and VI, located on 35 and 54 acres respectively, broke ground in June 2018 and are scheduled for completion by September 2018. Once operational, Sunfarm V and VI will sell all the power generated to Richmond-based Dominion Energy through a 15-year fixed-price power purchase agreement. Once completed, the projects will be able to provide power to 1,164 homes.

“North Carolina continues to be an important market for us since we started four years ago from this state” noted Dennis She, President and CEO of ET Energy. “In addition, we are also very happy to select McCarthy, one of the top EPC service providers, to execute these new projects for us, so we can deliver quality assets to our clients on time.”

McCarthy will hire 25 local craft workers to construct the project in support of growth in the clean energy job sector. The project will consist of assembling, installing and wiring 40,000 solar modules. To train the local workforce in the emerging solar industry, McCarthy is implementing principles of Training Within Industry (TWI), a program originally developed by United States Department of War in the 1940s to help quickly and reliably re-train workers on moderately complex tasks. Through its TWI solar program, McCarthy applies its "Learn. Perform. Repeat” methodology and offers highly effective and efficient training to workers who have little or no experience in solar installations. By deploying TWI and lean construction principles on solar projects from coast to coast McCarthy is overcoming the biggest challenge faced by the construction industry today, and successfully training its solar workforce.

“We’re pleased to be part of the team that’s bringing clean energy solutions to North Carolina,” said Scott Canada, senior vice president of the Renewable Energy team at McCarthy Building Companies. “Projects like Sunfarm are bringing new jobs to local communities and training workers in solar installation techniques.”

Since 2013, McCarthy’s Renewable Energy Team has completed or is in the process of constructing more than 30 utility-scale clean energy projects in communities from coast to coast, representing a combined capacity of more than 1.3 Gigawatts (GW) of clean energy production. McCarthy earned the 6th place ranking for EPC utility-scale solar installations in U.S. by Solar Power World's 2017 Top 500 Solar Contractors.
