SolarCity Helping Solarize New York Municipality, Expected To Save Village $2 Million In 20 Years

The village of Canton, New York, has decided to contract with SolarCity, a national solar company, as it moves forward with plans to solarize the municipality. The decision is expected to save taxpayers nearly $2 million during a 20-year period by locking in a rate of six cents per kilowatt during that time.

The project itself is expected to conserve tax payers $68,800 during the first year and $1.9 million overall in energy savings. SolarCity, the installing agency, received the winning bid in New York state for a municipal solar project RFP. Engineers are expected to be sent to Canton to inspect a site for the solar system’s installment in the near future.
