Minnehaha County officials say they’ve been approached by a developer seeking to build a large-scale solar power project near Sioux Falls.
The developer is negotiating a contract with an electric utility to buy the power that would be produced by the solar farm, Minnehaha County Planning and Zoning Director Scott Anderson said. The 1.5-megawatt project would generate enough electricity to power nearly 200 homes.
On Tuesday, the County Commission unanimously adopted zoning rules for commercial solar power projects, which previously were not addressed in the county’s rules.
