North American Electric Reliability Corporation Modeling Issues Report and Recommended Actions

This webinar will review the report published by NERC in April 2025 regarding findings from the Level 2 Alert regarding inverter-based resource (IBR) model quality deficiencies. The alert included eight recommendations for industry to help ensure IBR model quality through the lifecycle of a project – including modeling requirements, model verification, model validation, model benchmarking, use of standard library and user-defined models, electromagnetic transient (EMT) models, etc. The report aggregated the results from the mandatory reporting by industry stakeholders on this topic. Additionally, NERC released a related Level 3 Alert in May 2025 that will also be discussed in detail. The presenters will describe key takeaways from these alerts and reports as well as implications for IBR owner/operators.
